January 24th – National Readathon Day

53% of 9-year-olds read for pleasure daily, and by the time they turn 17, that number drops to 19%.

The National Book Foundation and Penguin Random House designated today, January 24th, as National Readathon Day.  This is a nationwide marathon reading session  from noon-4 PM (in respective time zones), and a fundraiser for The National Book Foundation’s literacy programs.

TBR Books
Just in time for February – Black History Month

I definitely plan to dedicate some D.E.A.R. time today. I will Drop Everything And Read (or begin reading) a couple of non-fiction books that have been on my TBR list for at least a year.

If you can’t read during the marathon hours today, please give yourself some D.E.A.R. time this weekend. Your body and spirit will appreciate the calm and peace of mind that reading a good book will bring. Happy Reading!
