The Sanctum Book Two: The Boy – Madhuri Blaylock

sanctum book 2 bannerI am pleased to review Madhuri Blaylock’s The Sanctum Book Two: The Boy as part of the Diverse Book Tours.  In typical series fashion, Book Two begins where Book One ends – with a virtually indestructible Dev rushing to save the life of the one she loves – “the Boy” – Wyatt Clayworth. Will he survive? Will he be the same? Will there be justice for the actions taken against him, his family and their Academy?

The Boy provides answers to these questions and more. While Dev and Wyatt continue to embark on their journey, conflict and tensions, stirred by the brutal and bloodthirsty Breslins, arise among the founding families of the Sanctum. Lines are drawn and battles are fought. These events will eventually lead to either the fulfillment of the Prophecy or a Sanctum ruled by the Breslin family.

As I stated in my review of The Girl, the characters were well-developed with personalities that were suited for their complex relationships. The Boy delves deeper into those relationships, particularly with Jools and Ryker, the Breslins, the Clayworths, the Morrisons, and Darby. Who can forget Darby – the beloved vampire/southern belle of the night? Book Two further expounds on Darby’s relationships with the Sanctum warriors, Magicals, and humans.

The story is simple to follow if you have not read The Sanctum Book One: The Girl. However, since this is a trilogy, it would be in your best interest to read the books in order. The Boy is true page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy.

Plot Summary:
In THE GIRL, Madhuri Blaylock introduced readers to the world of The Sanctum, one corrupted by greed and savagery and hellbent on achieving a single goal: destroying the prophesied hybrid. When one of its most celebrated warriors questioned his allegiances, age-old secrets were unveiled and violence erupted. The journey becomes more perilous and intense as the trilogy surges forward with THE BOY.

Can you cross the plains of death, collect every piece of your soul and make it back to the land of the living?

And if you complete the journey, will your loved ones welcome your return?
The Ramyan have been answering such questions since the creation of The Sanctum. A mysterious sect of Magicals, haunting the blank spaces of time and memory, they serve no one but themselves and their higher purpose. They exist on a plane removed from earthly matters, shifting easily between the living and the dead, moving in time to the beat of their own drummer.

At least they did.

Dev and Wyatt change all of that when the prophesied hybrid lands on the steps of Rinshun Palace, seeking help for the wounded Class A Warrior. That decision alters lives and sets old agendas back on course. But at what cost to Dev and Wyatt? And does that really even matter?
